Jammu, May 31: Former Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir, SP Vaid, expressed concerns regarding delays in the CUET exam due to technical glitches. He emphasized that such issues should be addressed beforehand through proper testing to avoid impacting the future of the youth in the country.
In a recent discussion, Vaid stated that ideally, exams should commence on time without any interruptions. However, he acknowledged that technical issues are a possibility whenever technology is involved. To prevent such problems, he advocated for thorough preparations and rehearsals in advance to ensure no technical difficulties arise at the last moment.
Addressing the issue of paper leaks, he noted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is already investigating the matter, and several arrests have been made. He stressed that actions are being taken against those involved, and such incidents should not recur. Vaid pointed out that examination agencies and the government understand the seriousness of this issue, as it pertains to the future of millions of students.
He called for major examinations in the country to be conducted in a completely secure and transparent manner. Vaid mentioned that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which conducts significant exams like the Civil Services Examination, NDA, and Indian Forest Service, has never faced paper leak incidents. According to him, the UPSC’s operational procedures and security measures are robust and reliable. He suggested that the National Testing Agency (NTA) should study and adopt the best practices from the UPSC model.
During the conversation, he was also questioned about the proposal to involve the military in securing the examination process. Vaid expressed his personal disagreement with this approach, stating that institutions like the UPSC have successfully conducted exams for years without military assistance. However, he acknowledged that if the central government decides to pursue this route, it would be a well-considered decision, as there should be no room for further paper leaks or controversies. He indicated that while the military could be a last resort, the focus should be on developing a strong and reliable examination system.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad criticized the government over the examination system. He claimed that nearly every major exam held in the state over the past few years has been marred by controversies or allegations of paper leaks. He noted that, to his knowledge, there is no significant exam in Uttar Pradesh that has not faced scrutiny.
Prasad also highlighted recent controversies surrounding university examinations and NEET, stating that these incidents erode the trust of the youth. He urged the government to take this issue seriously and reassured the youth and unemployed candidates that his party is committed to advocating for better examination systems in the future.
