Former RBI Governor Urjit Patel Appointed Executive Director at IMF

New Delhi, 29 August (Kiran News). Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Urjit Patel has been appointed as Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). His appointment is for a period of three years, and he will now represent India at the IMF.

According to a government notification issued by the Ministry of Personnel on 28 August, the Cabinet Appointments Committee has approved the appointment of economist and former RBI Governor Dr. Urjit Patel as Executive Director (ED) at the IMF. His appointment will be effective for three years from the date he assumes charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Urjit Patel replaces V. Subramanian, whose services were ended by the government on 30 April 2025, six months before the completion of his three-year term. Patel had taken over as the 24th Governor of the RBI on 4 September 2016, following Raghuram Rajan, but resigned in December 2018 before completing his tenure.
