Baba Ramdev Urges Unity Among Hindus, Calls to Fight External Threats

Ayodhya: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has responded to the controversy surrounding Swami Avimukteshwaranand Maharaj, emphasising the need for Hindu unity amid existing challenges. He stated that Hindus must stand together as there are many adversaries to Sanatan Dharma, including attempts at Islamisation and movements like Gajva-e-Hind. According to him, the focus should be on combating these external threats rather than creating internal conflicts.

After taking a dip at the Magh Mela in Prayagraj and visiting Ayodhya, Baba Ramdev said, “We regard the Shankaracharya as a form of God and hope that no Shankaracharya gets involved in any controversy.”

He further emphasised that saints should not engage in disputes, especially at religious and pilgrimage sites. “There should be no controversies regarding bathing rituals or palanquins,” he added. Baba Ramdev also remarked that true saints are those who have overcome ego, stating, “A saint is one who has erased his own humiliation.”

The controversy began on January 17, when Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati arrived with a large entourage at the Sangam ghat during Mouni Amavasya at the Magh Mela in Prayagraj. The police administration instructed him to proceed without a palanquin, leading to a dispute between the swami and mela officials. The situation escalated when Swami Avimukteshwaranand accused the administration of deliberate mistreatment and staged a protest at the mela.

During his Ayodhya visit, Baba Ramdev stated, “Sanatan Dharma is not just words or sermons; it should reflect in our lives. We should follow the ideals of Lord Ram. With this resolve, I have come here for darshan.”

Earlier, on Thursday, Baba Ramdev participated in worship at the Magh Mela and shared his experience with the media. He described Prayagraj as the ‘King of Pilgrimages’ and noted that millions of Sanatanis perform penance here during the festival. He expressed happiness over his visit and the worship he conducted.
