Kolkata, May 20: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari stated on Wednesday that voters in Northern Bengal have consistently shown their trust in the BJP since 2019.
During a visit to Siliguri in Darjeeling district, the Chief Minister chaired an administrative meeting concerning eight districts in Northern Bengal. Speaking to the media before the meeting, he emphasized that the trust of Northern Bengal voters in the BJP began during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and has continued through the recently concluded assembly elections.
He remarked, “Whether it’s the Lok Sabha or assembly elections, voters in Northern Bengal have expressed their trust in the BJP since 2019. Now, it is our turn to repay the debt to those voters who were deprived in many ways during the previous government. All promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the campaign will be fulfilled.”
In the recent assembly elections, BJP candidates won 40 out of 54 assembly seats across the eight districts of Northern Bengal, while candidates from the Trinamool Congress secured only 14 seats.
In four of these districts—Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar—the Trinamool Congress did not win any seats.
The Chief Minister also announced that the Development Minister for Northern Bengal, Nishith Pramanik, will now hear public grievances every week at ‘Uttar Kanya,’ which is commonly known as the state secretariat for Northern Bengal.
He further stated that his government will adopt a zero-tolerance policy regarding law and order issues throughout the state, including Northern Bengal. Any form of extortion, hooliganism, or deterioration of law and order will not be tolerated. Those who believe they can escape consequences as they did before are mistaken. The rule of law will now take its course.
To enhance the welfare of Northern Bengal, the Chief Minister noted that the state government will focus on the development of the tea and tourism sectors, as well as expedite pending projects from both the state and central governments in the region.
