Normalcy Restored in Pithoragarh Amid Fuel Crisis

New Delhi, May 23: The chaos surrounding petrol and diesel in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand, is gradually subsiding. Thanks to the strict measures and continuous monitoring by the district administration, conditions at petrol pumps are returning to normal. Long queues of vehicles that once formed at petrol stations are now diminishing, allowing residents to access fuel more easily.

Recently, confusion regarding the availability of petrol and diesel led many to fill their tanks excessively, resulting in overcrowding at the pumps. However, the administration clarified that there is no shortage of fuel in the district and that adequate supplies are available.

To manage the situation, the district administration adopted a firm stance. Officials urged residents to refuel only as needed and to avoid hoarding. Petrol pump operators were also given strict instructions not to sell fuel in containers without valid reasons. The administration emphasized that petrol and diesel are highly flammable substances, and filling containers increases the risk of accidents.

District Magistrate Ashish Kumar Bhagat issued an order stating that any pump operator found hoarding fuel for the purpose of selling at inflated prices would face severe penalties, including the potential sealing of the petrol station.

Additionally, a committee has been formed to ensure the continuous availability of petrol and diesel, prevent hoarding and black marketing, and maintain order at the pumps. This committee, chaired by the relevant sub-district magistrate, includes officials from the police department, supply department, revenue administration, and transport department. The committee will conduct regular monitoring to ensure compliance with regulations.

The impact of the administration’s strict measures is becoming evident. Crowds at petrol pumps have decreased, and residents can now obtain fuel without hassle. The district administration has urged people to disregard rumors and to refuel only as necessary.
