Kolkata, May 23: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has officially adopted the National Sports Governance Act 2025 (NSGA) during a Special General Body Meeting held in Kolkata on Saturday.
The meeting saw the participation of 19 members from the executive committee and 32 representatives from state associations, alongside delegates from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). An official statement confirmed, “The General Body unanimously approved the adoption of the NSGA by AIFF.”
The NSGA is set to play a crucial role in the governance of Indian football, emphasizing the need for improved governance structures across all sports associations, along with enhanced transparency and accountability.
During the meeting, discussions also revolved around constitutional reforms for AIFF’s member associations. The federation plans to share a draft of the constitution with its member associations to gather suggestions and feedback.
The statement added, “The General Body discussed that the draft constitution should be shared with member associations, which will be given 15 days to provide their final opinions.”
In addition to governance reforms, the meeting addressed the commercial aspects of the federation’s Master Rights Agreement (MRA). The MRA is one of the most significant business decisions for Indian football, defining and regulating its media rights, sponsorships, and marketing agreements.
It was announced that two firms have submitted bids for the agreement. Furthermore, the General Body granted the executive committee the authority to engage in further negotiations on this matter.
The statement concluded, “The federation also discussed the Master Rights Agreement (MRA), for which it received bids from two entities. In this regard, the General Body unanimously approved granting the executive committee the authority to negotiate and deliberate on the MRA.”
