West Bengals Chief Minister Promises Corruption-Free Recruitment Process

Kolkata, May 23: Following a change in government, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has taken significant steps to enhance transparency in the state’s recruitment process. Candidates participating in recruitment exams will now be required to receive a carbon copy of their OMR sheets.

This announcement was made during a government job fair held in central Kolkata’s Shyambazar. Adhikari stated, “Every young man and woman should receive a carbon copy of their OMR sheet. Until now, despite using the OMR system for exams, carbon copies were not provided. This is where nepotism and corruption begin. Henceforth, carbon copies will be issued.”

From the stage at the job fair, the Chief Minister claimed that the previous government’s tenure was marred by recruitment scams, leading to West Bengal’s negative reputation across the country.

He mentioned that a new recruitment policy would be implemented under the current government. This proposal is expected to be presented in the upcoming budget session of the assembly.

Adhikari emphasized, “The state government will provide employment opportunities to talented youth with complete transparency. The practice of awarding additional marks in written exams, academic scores, and oral exams will be abolished.”

He also indicated that minimum marks would be set for oral exams. Allegations of bias and nepotism during interviews were prevalent under the previous government, with claims that unqualified candidates were awarded extra marks to secure jobs.

In light of these allegations, the government is set to establish minimum marks for interviews. Suvendu Adhikari accused the previous Trinamool government of failing to adhere to constitutional rules in government recruitment exams. He asserted that the reservation rules for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and disabled candidates were not properly followed.

The Chief Minister reiterated that the sole aim of the government is to implement a 100% corruption-free recruitment process.

It is noteworthy that serious questions have been raised regarding the recruitment system in West Bengal following the cancellation of appointments for 26,000 teachers and allegations of hiring unqualified individuals for money.

Adhikari claimed that central agencies, including railways and paramilitary forces, have become vigilant regarding recruitment processes due to the corruption observed in West Bengal. However, he assured that under the “double-engine government,” youth will receive completely corruption-free employment opportunities.
