New Delhi, February 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation through his radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat‘, highlighting the importance of moving away from symbols of colonialism and embracing India’s cultural heritage. He announced that a significant event, ‘Rajaji Utsav’, will be celebrated at Rashtrapati Bhavan on February 23.
During his address, Modi stated, “During the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, I spoke about the five principles, one of which is liberation from the mindset of colonialism. Today, the country is prioritizing aspects connected to Indian culture. In this direction, Rashtrapati Bhavan has taken an important step. Tomorrow, on February 23, we will celebrate ‘Rajaji Utsav’.”
He revealed that a statue of C. Rajagopalachari, the first Indian Governor-General of independent India, will be unveiled in the central courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan. Rajagopalachari was known for viewing power as a service rather than a position. His conduct in public life, self-discipline, and independent thinking continue to inspire us today.
Modi expressed regret that even after independence, statues of British administrators were allowed to remain in Rashtrapati Bhavan, while the great sons of the nation were overlooked. The statue of British architect Edwin Lutyens will be replaced with that of Rajagopalachari. An exhibition based on Rajagopalachari will also be held during the ‘Rajaji Utsav’, running from February 24 to March 1.
The Prime Minister urged citizens to take the opportunity to visit the exhibition at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Additionally, Modi encouraged everyone to celebrate festivals joyfully with their families. He reminded the public to keep the mantra ‘Vocal for Local’ in mind, especially during Holi and other festivals, urging them to avoid foreign items and embrace indigenous products. By purchasing locally made goods, citizens contribute to the country’s self-reliance campaign.
Regarding the ‘Mann Ki Baat‘ program, Modi invited suggestions from the public, stating, “I receive numerous suggestions for ‘Mann Ki Baat‘ every month. Your messages reveal the incredible talents hidden in every corner of the country. Many inspiring stories of selflessness and community service have reached people through your efforts. Please continue your endeavors. I look forward to your messages.”
