Tibet to Enhance Ecological Protection During 15th Five-Year Plan

Beijing, May 30: The government of the Tibet Autonomous Region announced on May 29 that it will implement several measures to enhance ecological security during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. This initiative includes the construction of ecological conservation systems, foundational biodiversity surveys, species cataloging, and the modernization of biodiversity conservation and governance systems. The goal is to strengthen Tibet as a crucial national ecological security barrier.

During this plan, Tibet will commence its first foundational biodiversity survey and species cataloging across seven regions and cities, as well as 74 counties and districts. Additionally, a unique biodiversity list and conservation assessment system will be established to reflect Tibet’s distinctive ecological characteristics.

Danba, the executive vice president of the Tibet Autonomous Region, highlighted that nearly all types of terrestrial ecosystems are present in Tibet, which is rich in wild flora, fauna, and microorganisms.

According to the information provided, the 15th Five-Year Plan will explore and formulate regulations for biodiversity conservation, covering various ecological types such as forests, grasslands, wetlands, and deserts. This will ensure the implementation of conservation responsibilities effectively.
