Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswamy Invites Community to Tour Embassy in China

Beijing, May 30: Vikram Doraiswamy, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 1992 batch, was appointed as India’s Ambassador to China in March this year. He officially took on his responsibilities in Beijing at the beginning of May. The Ambassador recently conducted a tour of the Indian Embassy in China.

The Indian Embassy in China shared a nearly two-and-a-half-minute video on the social media platform X, showcasing Ambassador Doraiswamy’s tour of the embassy.

Ambassador Doraiswamy stated, “Our embassy was established in 2012. As the most populous country in the world, we can say that we are culturally unique. We offer various Indian classes here, including dance and yoga. India is not just a country of performing arts but also a land rich in traditional arts.”

He encouraged people to follow the Indian Embassy’s social media accounts and participate in the activities hosted by the embassy. He said, “I invite you to follow our media accounts and engage in our activities.”

Doraiswamy joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1992 after spending a year in journalism. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, he holds a Master’s degree in History from Delhi University.

After completing his in-service training in New Delhi from 1992 to 1993, Doraiswamy was appointed as Third Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Hong Kong in May 1994. He also completed a diploma in the Chinese language from the New Asia Yale-in-Asia Language School at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In September 1996, he was assigned to the Indian Embassy in Beijing, where he served for nearly four years. Upon returning to the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi in 2000, Doraiswamy took on the role of Deputy Chief of Protocol (Official). Two years later, he was promoted to the Prime Minister’s Office, later serving as the personal secretary to the Prime Minister of India.

In 2006, Doraiswamy worked as a political advisor at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and took charge as the Consul General in Johannesburg, South Africa, in October 2009.
