Satwik and Chirag Reach Finals at Singapore Open 2026, Defeating World Champions

Singapore, May 30: India’s top men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, have secured a spot in the finals of the Singapore Open BWF World Series Super 750 tournament. The duo, seeded fourth, triumphed over South Korea‘s world champions Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae with a score of 21-19, 21-18 in a match that lasted 52 minutes.

This marks their second World Tour final of the year. The bronze medalists from the 2025 World Championships were runners-up at the Thailand Open earlier this year.

In the semifinals, Satwik and Chirag made a remarkable comeback after initially trailing in both games against the Korean pair. They fell behind 8-13 and 13-17 in the first game but maintained their composure under pressure to clinch the game.

In the second game, they were down 11-14 but rallied to score six consecutive points, taking a 17-14 lead and holding on to secure their place in the finals.

Satwik and Chirag will now face the winners of the second semifinal, which will be contested between Denmark’s fifth-seeded Mathias Christiansen/Alexander Boe and China’s Gao Jia Juan/Wei or Shin.

After the victory, Chirag stated, “When we were behind, we tried to stay calm and trusted ourselves, knowing that if we stuck to our strategy, they would break at some point.”

Regarding their opponents, Kim and Seo, Chirag noted, “Their defense is currently the best on the circuit. We knew we had to remain calm and steady, especially when we were attacking.”

Meanwhile, the challenge for the Indian mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto ended in the semifinals, as they faced defeat against Japan’s Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara with scores of 16-21, 21-17, 13-21.
