Patna, May 30: Bihar Police has successfully dismantled a major inter-state vehicle theft gang. Six notorious criminals were arrested from Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, and Ranchi in Jharkhand. Following their leads, police recovered a stolen Scorpio from the Laheri police station area and a Honda City car stolen from Delhi. Additionally, a large number of license plates for two-wheelers and four-wheelers were also seized. On Saturday, Bihar Sharif DSP-1, Sanket Kumar, held a press conference to share details of the operation.
The DSP revealed that on May 23, 2026, thieves stole a Scorpio from the parking lot of Vaishnavi Marriage Hall located in Mangla Sthan, Laheri. Under the direction of the SP, a special team was formed at the Laheri police station. Using technical investigations and mobile tower dump data, the team traced connections to Vaishali district. The police raided Vaishali and apprehended four suspects: Ajay, Bittu, Aman, and Rajneesh. They also recovered the Honda City car stolen from Delhi and several vehicle license plates from them.
Upon rigorous interrogation, the arrested criminals disclosed that they had sent the Scorpio stolen from Laheri to Ranchi. Following this, the police swiftly conducted a raid in the Lower Bazaar area of Ranchi and recovered the stolen Scorpio. Two individuals, Mo. Asfan and Anas Jameel, were also arrested for purchasing and concealing the vehicle.
Investigations revealed that this gang operated with remarkable cunning. Each member had a specific role. Some were experts in scouting and stealing vehicles. They were so skilled that they could steal a vehicle within just half an hour without any local assistance. After the theft, another group would immediately change the vehicle’s license plate, while a third group would transport the vehicles to other states, such as Jharkhand, for sale.
The DSP noted that this gang had been active for the past two to three years. Cases have been registered against them in Jahangabad, Rajgir, Hisua, Belasar, and even in Delhi’s Defense Colony police station. The police are coordinating with other districts based on the license plates recovered from Vaishali. Recommendations have been made to reward the DIU and Laheri police team for this significant breakthrough.
In total, six individuals have been arrested in this case. Among the arrested are 29-year-old Ajay Kumar from Maheshpur Mohalla in Muzaffarpur and 24-year-old Bittu Kumar from Meghratwar Mohalla. Also apprehended are 23-year-old Aman Kumar from Dilwarapur East in Vaishali and 20-year-old Rajneesh Kumar from Mahua Jawahar Chowk. Additionally, two suspects from Ranchi, 29-year-old Mo. Asfan and 27-year-old Anas Jameel, were also taken into custody.
The raid involved the DIU team from Nalanda, along with Laheri police inspector and station head Ranjit Kumar, sub-inspector Nitish Ranjan, sub-inspector Ritu Ranjan, sub-inspector Sarvesh Kumar, and constable Deepak Kumar.
