New Delhi, June 2: Today’s irregular lifestyle is exacerbating physical and mental issues for older adults. As people age, frequent constipation, digestive problems, and persistent back pain become common, negatively impacting overall health. In response, the Ministry of AYUSH has recommended incorporating the Bow Pose, or Dhanurasana, into daily routines.
With just a few days left until International Yoga Day 2026 on June 21, the Indian government’s AYUSH Ministry is encouraging citizens to integrate yoga into their daily lives. They are continuously sharing information about various yoga asanas to promote health and wellness.
According to the ministry, the increase in age often leads to recurring constipation, digestive issues, and chronic back pain, which severely affect comfort, mobility, and health. Practicing the Bow Pose can help alleviate many of these problems permanently.
The Bow Pose effectively stretches the abdominal area, stimulates digestive organs, strengthens back muscles, and enhances flexibility. Regular practice of this asana activates the abdominal muscles, providing relief from constipation and improving digestion. Additionally, it strengthens the spine and significantly aids in reducing back pain. Daily practice increases the flexibility of muscles and joints, helping the body remain active and agile despite aging.
To practice the Bow Pose, start by lying on your stomach. Bend both knees, bringing your heels toward your body, and grasp your ankles with your hands. Inhale deeply while lifting your chest and thighs off the ground, creating a bow-like shape with your body. Hold this position for a few seconds before slowly returning to the starting position. Beginners should exercise caution and consider starting under the guidance of a yoga expert.
