Historic Narrow Gauge Train Service Resumes Between Pathankot and Joginder Nagar

Pathankot, June 2: The historic narrow gauge train service connecting Pathankot in Punjab to Joginder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh has resumed after a four-year hiatus. The restoration of train operations follows the reconstruction of the railway bridge over the Chakki River, re-establishing the broken rail link between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. This long-awaited service is expected to boost tourism and enhance commercial activities between the two states.

In 2022, heavy rains and floods severely damaged the railway bridge over the Chakki River, halting train services on the Pathankot-Joginder Nagar route. As a result, the rail connection between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh was completely severed, forcing passengers to rely on road transport.

After four years of construction, the new railway bridge is now complete. With the bridge’s construction, the railway track has been restored, and formal train services commenced today. Passengers and locals expressed significant enthusiasm for the resumption of service.

This narrow gauge railway line, known for its stunning natural scenery and charming hilly routes, allows travelers to enjoy the picturesque landscapes of Himachal Pradesh once again. With the train service back in operation, tourists can once again relish the beauty of the hills and valleys during their journey.

Passengers expressed their joy at the resumption of train services, noting that the four-year hiatus forced them to travel by buses and other vehicles, leading to increased time and expense. The return of train services now offers a more economical and comfortable travel option. Locals believe that the restored rail link will ease daily commutes and significantly benefit local businesses by revitalizing trade between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

One passenger remarked, “We are very happy that the train service has resumed. Traveling by bus was difficult and inconvenient. The train journey is much better, allowing us to enjoy the beautiful views along the way. The fare is also quite low, just 25 rupees.” Another traveler added that the return of this train service has provided considerable relief to many.

A female traveler shared her excitement about her first journey on this train, stating, “I am going to Jwala Ji. I am thrilled to be traveling for the first time, and I expect to see many beautiful valleys along the way.”

Locomotive pilot Jaspal Singh emphasized the importance of maintaining this train service, stating, “It benefits people, promotes trade, and supports tourism, which is advantageous for both local residents and businesses.”
