India Launches Swasth Bharat Portal to Enhance Public Health Services

New Delhi, May 6: The Indian government has taken a significant step towards strengthening the country’s public health system by launching the ‘Swasth Bharat Portal.’ This initiative was unveiled by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda during the 10th National Summit.

The summit, themed “Best Practices Shaping the Future of Health in India,” highlighted the portal as a major initiative towards creating an integrated and efficient digital health infrastructure.

Developed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, this portal aims to consolidate various national health programs onto a single platform. Previously, health services were monitored and reported through separate digital applications, leading to challenges such as data fragmentation, redundancy, and resource wastage. The ‘Swasth Bharat Portal’ addresses these issues by functioning as a one-stop platform.

This portal is built on an API-based federated architecture, connecting different health program systems. This will enhance interoperability and facilitate better data utilization. Health workers will no longer need to log into multiple portals or repeatedly enter data, saving time and improving efficiency.

Frontline health workers, including ASHA, ANM, CHO, and medical officers, will directly benefit from this portal. It will provide them with a unified platform for data entry, reporting, and monitoring. Additionally, the portal includes data visualization tools, simplifying local planning and decision-making.

The ‘Swasth Bharat Portal’ aligns with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and offers integration with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account. This will enable secure and seamless exchange of patient health records. In the future, it will also connect with the Health Professional Registry and Health Facility Registry.

According to the government, this portal is expected to reduce infrastructure costs by 20 to 30 percent and decrease redundant data entry and human resource processes by 20 to 40 percent. Furthermore, the decision-making process will be expedited. The ‘Swasth Bharat Portal’ could prove to be a transformative initiative towards an integrated, transparent, and data-driven health system in the country.
