Honor has officially unveiled its next-gen foldable, the Honor Magic V5, in China — and it’s already turning heads. With a remarkably slim profile of just 8.8mm, the Magic V5 claims the title of the world’s thinnest foldable phone, at least in its “Warm White” color variant. But while the phone impresses with its sleek design, it comes with a caveat — a massive rear camera module that’s thicker than either half of the phone.

A Slim Marvel with a Giant Catch

The Honor Magic V5 continues the company’s design-first philosophy, building on the Magic V3 with a focus on two areas: thickness and camera performance.

In its slimmest avatar, the phone measures 8.8mm, undercutting rivals like the Oppo Find N5 (8.93mm) and the expected Galaxy Z Fold 7 (8.9mm–9mm). However, that ultra-slim profile is only available on the Warm White variant — all other color options come in at 9mm thick. The Warm White edition is also the lightest, weighing just 217 grams.

Despite the minimalist body, Honor has packed the device with cutting-edge internals and display specs.

Top-Shelf Hardware Under the Hood

The Magic V5 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and runs on Android 15 out of the box. It features a 7.95-inch internal foldable display and a 6.43-inch external display, offering a seamless multitasking and media experience.

Memory and storage configurations go up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage, making this a true performance beast. Battery capacity ranges depending on the variant — the top-end model includes a 6,100mAh battery, while other versions feature a still-respectable 5,820mAh cell.

A Camera System That Refuses to Compromise

Perhaps the boldest move by Honor lies in the camera department. The Magic V5 houses a powerful 50MP main shooter, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 64MP 3x telephoto camera — a setup that’s typically reserved for high-end flagships.

What stands out, though, is the sheer size of the camera bump. According to early hands-on reports, the camera module is thicker than either half of the phone, making it more pronounced than what’s seen on the Oppo Find N5 or any other foldable currently available.

Honor also includes dual 20MP selfie cameras on both the inner and outer displays, catering to content creators and video callers alike.

Global Availability Still Under Wraps

As of now, the Honor Magic V5 is only listed on the company’s Chinese website, with no official word on global launch plans. However, given the growing interest in foldables worldwide, a broader rollout seems likely in the near future.

Honor’s latest release reflects its ambition to lead the foldable segment, not just in style but in raw performance and imaging. The camera bump may be controversial, but it could also be the key to delivering unmatched photo quality in a foldable.

We’ll reserve final judgment for our full review — and, hopefully, a global release date.
