
New Delhi, May 24: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. In his opening remarks, Jaishankar expressed optimism and confidence regarding the discussions.
He stated, “We have a comprehensive global strategic partnership, which simply means there is deep and broad cooperation between us. This relationship impacts various sectors and the world at large.”
Jaishankar further noted, “This is because our interests align on many issues across different parts of the world. Therefore, I am eager for our discussions today. These are complex times, but as strong partners, I am confident our dialogue will be open and productive. Once again, welcome.”
Following this, both leaders will engage in a delegation-level meeting at Hyderabad House, focusing on enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, and technology.
Earlier on Saturday, Rubio met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he received an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to visit the White House soon.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Rubio informed Modi about the “continuous progress” in various sectors, including defense, strategic technology, trade and investment, energy security, connectivity, education, and people-to-people relations between the two nations.
U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore, mentioned in a post that both sides had a “productive discussion” on deepening India-U.S. cooperation across various sectors during the meeting.
He emphasized that India remains a “key partner” for the United States. Gore stated, “It was great to join Secretary Rubio in the meeting with Prime Minister Modi. We had productive discussions on enhancing cooperation in areas like security, trade, and critical technologies— all of which strengthen both countries and promote a free and open Indo-Pacific region. India is a significant partner for the U.S.!”
He also mentioned in another post that Secretary Rubio extended an invitation for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House on behalf of President Trump.
