Lucknow, May 24: Uttar Pradesh’s Energy and Urban Development Minister AK Sharma has targeted the opposition and certain individuals regarding the state’s power supply. He stated that some are deliberately attempting to tarnish Uttar Pradesh’s reputation, while the reality is that the state has achieved one of the best levels of electricity access and supply.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Minister Sharma noted that the peak electricity demand in Uttar Pradesh reached 30,395 megawatts on Saturday night. He pointed out that when electricity only reached five villages, no one raised concerns. Now, with 18 to 24 hours of power supply available in every village and street, minor interruptions are being exaggerated to create narratives of ‘power outages’ and ‘electricity crises.’ He called this an insult to the state and its electricity workers.
Sharma clarified the situation with statistics, revealing that nearly 58,000 gram panchayats and around 300,000 villages and settlements in the state are connected to electricity. Additionally, continuous power supply is maintained in 762 urban local bodies, including 17 municipal corporations, 200 municipal councils, and 545 town councils.
The minister acknowledged that some issues had arisen in a few villages and neighborhoods in four to five cities, but these were resolved just two days ago. He mentioned that he remains in contact with all 503 legislators and MLCs, and their suggestions are being acted upon. Recently, five suggestions from the public were respectfully accepted.
Sharma described the intense heat and increased electricity demand as challenges. He noted that sometimes local technical, natural, or human factors can cause issues, which are being addressed promptly. He urged the public to remain patient and cooperative.
