Multinational Military Exercise Pragati Underway in Meghalaya

New Delhi, May 24: The Indian Army is conducting counter-terrorism operations in the mountainous and forested regions of Meghalaya. This initiative is part of a multinational military exercise named ‘Pragati’. Alongside the Indian Army, military personnel from 12 other countries are participating in this training.

The first-ever ‘Pragati’ multinational exercise in India aims to enhance coordination, stability, and security. The Indian Army has reported that ‘Pragati 2026’ is currently taking place in Umroi, Meghalaya, with great enthusiasm. Here, the Indian Army and allied military forces are training shoulder to shoulder. According to the army, this exercise is strengthening mutual coordination, trust, and joint capabilities.

Participating nations include Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. The exercise focuses on counter-terrorism operations in mountainous and forest areas, improving operational coordination through joint planning, tactical exercises, and coordinated missions.

The ‘Pragati’ exercise reflects a shared commitment to peace, stability, security, and cooperative development among the participating armies. Spanning two weeks, this military exercise will concentrate on counter-terrorism operations in semi-hilly and forested regions. The training program will include joint planning, tactical-level exercises, and coordinated operations to enhance the adaptability, endurance, and tactical efficiency of the soldiers from various countries.

Special emphasis will be placed on physical fitness, discipline, and mutual coordination during operations in challenging conditions. The theme of Exercise Pragati is “Resolute, Relentless, and United.” Its goal is to strengthen military cooperation, coordination, and mutual understanding among the participating nations.

Notably, upon their arrival in India, all foreign military contingents were welcomed in a traditional and cultural manner by the Indian Army. ‘Pragati’ stands for “Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in the Indian Ocean Region.” This exercise is being conducted with a spirit of equality, friendship, and mutual respect, providing a platform for various countries’ armies to share professional experiences, understand each other’s operational methods, and strengthen military cooperation.
