Among those apprehended is a suspect from Durgapur, West Bengal. Authorities recovered 15 mobile phones, 14 SIM cards, four ATM cards, two laptops, and ₹50,000 in cash from the suspects.
During a press conference on Sunday, Jamtara’s Superintendent of Police, Shambhu Kumar Singh, revealed that a special team led by Cyber Police Station Officer Rajesh Mandal conducted raids in the Karmatand and Narayanpur police station areas. The police reported that two criminals were caught red-handed while attempting to defraud individuals over the phone from the residence of Vishnu Mandal in Mattand village, Karmatand. Additionally, another suspect was apprehended in a blockade in the Siyatand and Jhiliwa forest area.
In a separate operation in Lokniya village within the Narayanpur police station jurisdiction, two more cybercriminals were arrested. They would instill fear regarding the closure of debit or credit cards to extract bank account details and OTPs from victims. Subsequently, they would siphon off money through digital platforms like PhonePe and Google Pay. The gang also impersonated electricity department officials, calling individuals to claim overdue electricity bills as a means of online fraud.
According to police, this gang may have connections across multiple states. Cases numbered 29/26 and 30/26 have been registered at the Cyber Police Station, and investigations are ongoing. Notably, two of the arrested suspects, Sagar Nayak and Kishore Das, have prior criminal records.
