TMC Receives Notice to Vacate Trinamool Bhavan Amid Security Concerns

Kolkata, May 24: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leadership has received a notice to vacate the party’s temporary headquarters, ‘Trinamool Bhavan,’ located in East Kolkata.

The owner of the multi-story rented building in the Topsia area, near the EM Bypass, has requested the party to vacate the premises. This building has served as the TMC headquarters for several years. Reports suggest that the decision comes in light of vandalism incidents that occurred outside the building following the assembly election results, raising security concerns.

Montu Saha, the owner of this upscale building, is the head of the well-known state company ‘Modern Decorators.’ He has reportedly informed the TMC leadership verbally about the need to vacate the building.

Saha has also clarified that a deadline has been set for vacating the premises. He mentioned that discussions with TMC leadership had taken place, and the party assured him that the building would be completely vacated within the next two months.

Recently, the state has witnessed political turmoil. However, Montu Saha stated that there is no political motive, pressure, or other reasons behind this decision. He noted that significant vandalism occurred outside the building immediately after the assembly election results were announced on May 4. He emphasized that any damage to the building would ultimately be his loss, and there are no other concerns.

Saha reiterated that he requested the TMC to vacate the building primarily for security reasons and holds no personal grudge against the party. He confirmed that the TMC leadership has consistently paid rent as per the agreement. As of now, there has been no response from the Trinamool Congress regarding this matter.

It is noteworthy that after retaining power in the 2021 assembly elections, the TMC leadership decided to renovate the party’s main office located in the Topsia area. The old building was demolished, and a modern multi-story structure was constructed in its place. Consequently, an alternative office was rented in 2022 in the metropolitan area near the EM Bypass.

Initially, this building was rented for only two years, but due to the ongoing construction at the Topsia main building, the contract was extended for another two years.

As a result, this building has been the central hub for TMC’s political and organizational activities for the past four years. The temporary office has been equipped with separate rooms for party chief Mamata Banerjee and General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Almost every significant organizational meeting, electoral strategy session, and press conference has been held in this building. Top party leaders, legislators, and ministers have frequented this office daily. The management and oversight of this office have primarily been handled by the party’s state president, Subrata Bakshi, and vice president, Jay Prakash Majumdar.
