
Amritsar, May 24: A shocking incident in the Majitha area has sent ripples through the administration and police departments just before the municipal council elections. ASI Joginder Singh of the Punjab Police was shot dead by unidentified assailants while on his way to duty. The attackers fired four shots, hitting him directly and causing his immediate death at the scene.
The deceased, ASI Joginder Singh, was a resident of the village Ghaniye and was stationed with the Amritsar police. According to police sources, he left home for duty around 5 AM as usual. Upon reaching near Hamza Mor on Fatehgarh Churiyan Road in Majitha, two unidentified assailants approached from behind and opened fire. The attackers fled the scene swiftly after the incident.
Upon receiving the news, Majitha police and senior officials rushed to the location. The area was cordoned off, and forensic teams along with technical experts began collecting evidence. Police have also seized footage from nearby CCTV cameras to identify the attackers.
SSP Rural Sohel Mir stated, “We received information this morning about ASI Joginder Singh’s body lying on Majitha Road. The SHO of Majitha arrived at the scene and confirmed the gunshot wounds. The body has been sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem. Forensic and technical teams are working at the site. The location of the incident is a busy road. We are investigating all angles, including personal enmity, road rage, or any other motive. A thorough investigation is underway.”
The police are also probing the reasons behind the murder. Whether it was a case of personal rivalry or an organized conspiracy remains to be seen. The family of the deceased is in mourning. Following this incident, the Amritsar Rural Police have gone into alert mode.
