Four Individuals Quarantined in Gujarat Amid Ebola Concerns

Ahmedabad, May 28: Health officials in Gujarat have taken precautionary measures in response to reports of an Ebola outbreak in Uganda and Congo. Four individuals, including a businessman who recently returned from Africa, have been quarantined. State Health Minister Prabhul Pansheria announced this on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old businessman, Amori Lokola, arrived in Mumbai five to seven days ago before traveling to Vadodara. Upon reaching Vadodara, he was admitted to a bank hospital due to fever. Based on information received by the state health department, he was later transferred to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where a separate isolation ward for Ebola has been established.

Minister Pansheria noted that cases are emerging in African nations like Uganda and Congo, where the virus is spreading. The World Health Organization has issued specific guidelines for countries worldwide.

Two other individuals traveling with Lokola, Patrick Kaja and Valentine Jodal, have also been admitted to separate isolation wards at SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad. Additionally, Dr. Sunil Musana, who had professional contact with the patients, has been quarantined as a precaution.

The minister reassured the public that no confirmations have been made yet, emphasizing that there is no need for panic. It has not been confirmed that this is a case of the Ebola virus.

He further explained that the patients will remain in quarantine for 10 to 11 days, and blood samples have been sent to Pune for testing. The results will clarify the situation. Previously, a similar case was quarantined, but the test results came back negative.

Minister Pansheria stressed that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in Gujarat or India. He stated that these measures are purely precautionary, as the individuals had traveled from affected countries.

He added that they are closely monitoring any patients arriving from those regions who exhibit mild fever, cold, or cough to prevent the spread of infection. The patients’ conditions are stable, and they are under medical supervision.
