Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan Meets Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi

New Delhi, May 28: Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday in New Delhi. This was Satheesan’s first formal meeting with Shah since taking office. The meeting is viewed as a significant step towards improving coordination between the Kerala state government and the central government.

This meeting occurred just a day after Satheesan had discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. During his visit to Delhi, the Chief Minister addressed several critical issues concerning the state with top leaders of the central government.

Sources indicate that discussions with Amit Shah focused on Kerala’s economic situation, pending financial assistance from the center, and issues related to the cooperative sector. Shah also oversees the Ministry of Cooperation, which likely led to in-depth discussions on cooperative matters.

The meeting also covered internal security issues and the state’s development projects. It is believed that the new Kerala government aims to maintain better coordination with the center on administrative and financial matters.

On Tuesday, Satheesan noted that this was his first visit to Delhi since becoming Chief Minister, and thus, these meetings were primarily courtesy calls. However, he hinted at returning to Delhi soon for more detailed discussions on significant issues.

Satheesan took the oath of office as Kerala’s Chief Minister on May 18. Political analysts consider his proactive approach crucial, especially as Kerala faces economic challenges and seeks increased support from the central government.

Despite the national-level political rivalry between Congress and BJP, Satheesan’s ongoing meetings in Delhi are seen as efforts to foster better central-state relations for the benefit of the state.

On Thursday, Chief Minister Satheesan is scheduled to meet with religious and social leaders in North Kerala and participate in a civic honor ceremony in Kozhikode.
