Bengaluru, May 28: Amid ongoing speculation regarding the Chief Minister position and cabinet reshuffles in Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala addressed the media about a significant meeting held with the Congress high command. He emphasized the party’s serious approach toward the upcoming elections, which was the main topic of discussion.
Surjewala revealed that a major meeting took place on Tuesday, attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. The party’s General Secretary K.C. Venugopal was also present. The meeting primarily focused on two crucial elections: the four Rajya Sabha seats and seven Legislative Council seats, scheduled for June 18.
He mentioned that various potential candidates were discussed, including considerations on who should receive tickets, who could best represent the party, and how to make decisions in the interest of both the party and the state. Multiple panels and lists of names were presented to ensure thorough discussion of all options.
Surjewala also noted that further suggestions from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar are still pending. The final decision has not yet been made. Discussions will continue over the next couple of days with both leaders, along with other senior party members and cabinet ministers. The party aims to select final candidates based on input from all major leaders to avoid any disputes or dissatisfaction.
He stated that the goal of this entire process is to ensure that those who enter the Rajya Sabha and the Council can provide strong representation for the party and effectively raise state issues. Additionally, there is a concerted effort to form the most balanced and effective team, considering the current political landscape.
