Yogi Government Takes Strong Stance on Womens Safety in Uttar Pradesh

Varanasi, May 28: The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh is demonstrating heightened sensitivity and vigilance regarding women’s crimes. On one hand, the government is taking strict action against offenders involved in crimes against women, while on the other, it is providing financial assistance and social support to victims. In a recent case, police from the Sarnath station in Varanasi successfully rescued a minor girl who was allegedly sold into trafficking, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The Varanasi administration proposed immediate financial aid of two lakh rupees from the Chief Minister‘s Discretionary Fund for the victim of human trafficking and sexual assault. This proposal was swiftly approved, marking a significant step towards providing the victim with economic support, rehabilitation, and social security.

The District Magistrate of Varanasi reported that the girl was presented before the Child Welfare Committee and underwent a medical examination on May 20. She has been placed in a government-run children’s home (for girls) where she is receiving counseling from mental health professionals to ensure her emotional and psychological well-being. Efforts are also being made to maintain a family-like environment for her, along with providing necessary legal assistance to effectively advance her rehabilitation and judicial process.

According to police reports, the victim, originally from Bihar, was falsely married off by her mother for monetary gain. The police have already arrested three individuals, including the victim’s mother, and they are currently in custody. The Sarnath police have registered a case under the provisions of human trafficking, sexual assault, and the POCSO Act, initiating legal proceedings against the accused.
