Villagers in Purnia Kill Leopard After Days of Terror

Purnia, May 28: In a shocking incident in Bihar’s Purnia district, villagers killed a leopard that had been terrorizing the community for three days. The leopard was accused of attacking livestock and threatening the safety of residents.

Local sources reported that the leopard had been roaming the village of Chakla Bahiya and nearby fields. During its rampage, it killed two calves and a goat.

Residents claimed that the leopard had attacked several people, injuring at least three villagers. Fortunately, all the injured individuals are now reported to be out of danger.

On Wednesday, the sighting of the leopard in the fields sparked panic once again. A large number of villagers gathered at the scene and surrounded the animal. After a prolonged struggle, they managed to kill the leopard.

The incident caused chaos in the area. Villagers noted that wild animals had been increasingly spotted in the region, but the leopard’s repeated attacks heightened their fears.

Local police and the forest department had already been informed about the situation.

Shanti Devi, the village head, stated that authorities were notified about the leopard’s activities and attacks, prompting officials to arrive at the scene.

Following the incident, teams from the administration and the forest department arrived to take possession of the leopard’s body. Injured villagers received treatment at a nearby referral hospital.

Forest department officials have initiated an investigation to determine how the leopard reached the populated area and whether other wild animals are present nearby.

According to a forest department official, the extreme heat and humidity may have driven the leopard in search of water and food towards human settlements.

The leopard’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which will be conducted by a team of three veterinarians.
