Lucknow, May 28: In a significant move to promote energy conservation and domestic tourism, the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has announced free entry to museums and archaeological sites for school children and their families during May and June. Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh issued directives to departmental officials to implement this initiative.
In a meeting held on May 13, Singh emphasized the importance of energy savings in line with the Prime Minister’s call for national interest. Officials who have been allocated government vehicles were advised to practice frugality in their usage, aiming to reduce fuel expenses by up to 50%. Those on the same route are encouraged to share vehicles, even during official trips.
Singh also recommended maximizing the use of public transport and metro services. He instructed limited use of electricity and air conditioning in offices, advising that offices should only open on holidays in unavoidable situations. The minister stressed the need for widespread promotion of the free entry scheme at monuments.
Recognizing the immense potential for destination weddings in the state, Singh urged the encouragement of public-private partnership (PPP) models in tourist accommodations. During May and June 2026, tourists traveling with children and families will receive discounts of 20 to 25% at government-run tourist lodges and hotels.
As part of the Chief Minister‘s “Visit My State” campaign, efforts to brand and promote major tourist destinations such as Varanasi, Mathura, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Agra, and Naimisharanya will be intensified. Special cooking shows will be organized to familiarize tourists and locals with regional cuisines, while heritage walks will connect people to the state’s rich cultural and historical legacy.
The Culture Department has been directed to organize bhajan, drama, and cultural programs through district magistrates. A total of 200 theatrical presentations will be staged across various mandals and tourist sites throughout the state.
