Legal Action Initiated Following Attack on ED Team in Kerala

New Delhi, May 28: A significant legal action has commenced regarding the attack on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in Kerala. An FIR has been registered at the Museum police station in Thiruvananthapuram based on a complaint from the ED. This incident occurred during a raid by the Kochi zone team on properties linked to CMRL (Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited) and former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter, Veena.

The FIR was filed under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Public Property Damage Recovery Act. The complaint was submitted by an assistant director of the ED, which led to the Kerala police registering the case.

According to the FIR, not only ED officials but also CRPF and Kerala police personnel were victims of the attack. Investigating agencies claim they can identify around 300 individuals involved in the assault. The police are currently working to identify the suspects based on video footage and other evidence.

On Wednesday, the ED conducted raids at a total of ten locations in Kerala and Bengaluru. The operation targeted CMRL, its directors, and properties associated with Veena. During the raids, crucial documents, digital evidence, investment records, and bank fixed deposits were seized from locations in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram, and Bengaluru.

The ED also froze ₹18.36 crore across 242 bank accounts during this operation. The agency asserts that several significant financial transactions have emerged from the investigation.

The attack on the ED team occurred after the operation at Veena and Pinarayi Vijayan’s residences was completed. According to the agency, some individuals assaulted ED vehicles with bricks and iron rods, injuring a driver in the eye. This incident has sparked a new debate regarding politics and law enforcement in Kerala.
