Heavy Rain Disrupts Life in Uttar Pradesh, Schools Closed in Lucknow Till Class 12; CM Yogi to Visit Affected Areas

Lucknow, 4 August (H.S.) — Torrential rain continued to batter several parts of Uttar Pradesh, prompting authorities in the state capital, Lucknow, to announce closure of all schools up to Class 12 for Monday. The order applies to both government and private institutions.

Rain has been lashing the state since Friday, with the situation worsening over the weekend. While Saturday saw intermittent showers, Sunday brought relentless downpour that triggered flood-like conditions in over a dozen districts.

Taking stock of the escalating crisis, the Uttar Pradesh government had dispatched cabinet ministers to flood-affected districts on Sunday. These ministers conducted inspections alongside district officials to assess the ground situation and coordinate relief efforts.

In Lucknow, heavy and continuous rain forced the district administration to issue an order declaring all schools from Classes 1 to 12 closed for the day. The directive was issued by the District Magistrate. Schools that had already opened for the day sent students back home after receiving the order.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to visit western Uttar Pradesh today, with scheduled stops in Saharanpur and Meerut divisions. During his visit, he will hold review meetings with local officials and public representatives to monitor the ongoing situation and guide necessary actions.

The Meteorological Department has warned of more rainfall in the coming days, prompting authorities to remain on high alert across flood-prone regions.
