Effective Yoga Poses to Combat Depression, Says AYUSH Ministry

New Delhi, May 22: With World Yoga Day just around the corner, the Indian government’s AYUSH Ministry is emphasizing the importance of yoga for improving both physical and mental health. The ministry has been actively sharing information about various yoga poses and their benefits, particularly in combating depression.

Yoga experts assert that the practice not only maintains physical health but is also highly effective in calming the mind, reducing stress, and achieving emotional balance. In today’s fast-paced world, where work pressure and personal issues are common, depression has become a widespread concern. Thus, regular yoga practice has become essential.

The AYUSH Ministry promotes the message “Yoga Yukt, Rog Mukt,” urging citizens to practice these poses daily. Beginners can start with 15-20 minutes and gradually increase their practice time. Yoga not only aids in fighting depression but also enhances overall health.

According to the AYUSH Ministry, regular yoga practice reduces stress-inducing hormones, stabilizes the mind, and helps alleviate mental issues like depression. Effective yoga poses and pranayama techniques for combating depression include meditation, Bhramari pranayama, Tadasana, Bhujangasana, and Anulom-Vilom.

Meditation: Practicing meditation for 10-15 minutes daily can reduce mental clutter and bring inner peace.

Pawanmuktasana: This pose helps alleviate stomach issues as well as mental unrest, releasing trapped negative energy from the body.

Bhramari Pranayama: This technique calms the brain by producing a humming sound while breathing, which reduces stress and anxiety.

Tadasana: A standing pose that energizes both the body and mind, it helps improve posture and boosts self-confidence.

Bhujangasana: This snake-like pose strengthens the spine and alleviates chest tightness, reducing negative emotions associated with depression.

Anulom-Vilom Pranayama: This technique involves inhaling through one nostril and exhaling through the other, balancing both hemispheres of the brain and promoting tranquility.

The AYUSH Ministry encourages everyone to incorporate these practices into their daily routine for better mental health.
