Seven Injuries Heighten Severity of Twisha Sharmas Death Case, Says Madhya Pradesh Advocate General Prashant Singh

Jabalpur, May 28: Madhya Pradesh’s Advocate General Prashant Singh stated on Thursday that the High Court has considered several critical aspects in the hearing of Twisha Sharma’s death case, including the discovery of seven pre-mortem injuries on the victim’s body.

Speaking to reporters, Singh mentioned that a petition was filed seeking the cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to the accused, Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of Twisha Sharma.

“The court held a detailed hearing on this matter yesterday. One of the key points considered by the High Court was the presence of seven injuries on Twisha Sharma’s body, which indicates the seriousness of this case,” Singh said.

He further noted that the investigation team had issued multiple notices to Giribala Singh, but allegations suggest that she did not provide the necessary cooperation.

Singh stated, “When granting anticipatory bail, the court clearly mentioned that she should cooperate with the investigation. However, the investigation team did not receive the expected assistance.”

The Advocate General also revealed that the FIR includes charges of cruelty and dowry harassment against the accused.

“It is explicitly mentioned in the FIR that Twisha Sharma faced cruelty. Her unnatural death occurred within six months, which allegedly turns this into a dowry death case. The FIR also includes allegations related to dowry demands,” he added.

He continued, “Witness statements recorded during the investigation also support the allegations made in the complaint.”

Prashant Singh emphasized that if the WhatsApp chats are examined, further evidence of the cruelty related to dowry that Twisha Sharma endured may emerge.

In a significant development, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has revoked the anticipatory bail granted to former district judge Giribala Singh in the dowry death case of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma.

In an order issued on Wednesday, the court annulled the relief provided by the lower court on May 15. The court found that critical facts related to the case diary and witness statements were not adequately considered when bail was granted.

Justice Devanarayan Mishra canceled the anticipatory bail previously granted by a session court in Bhopal. He noted that the lower court failed to conduct a thorough examination of crucial evidence, including the case diary, witness testimonies, and WhatsApp conversations.

After reviewing the case, the High Court identified serious deficiencies in the order. The bench found that the lower court overlooked significant witness testimonies and documentary evidence present in the case diary, which pointed towards Singh’s alleged involvement.
