Karnatakas Economic Crisis: BJP Questions Leadership Transition

Bengaluru, May 28: B.Y. Vijayendra, the state president of the BJP and a legislator, launched a scathing attack on the Karnataka government, questioning who will succeed Siddaramaiah as the next Chief Minister. During a media interaction in Hospet, he stated, “The biggest question now is who will become the Chief Minister after Siddaramaiah.”

Vijayendra criticized the Congress-led government, claiming that Karnataka is mired in an economic crisis due to three years of poor governance. He accused the administration of failing to provide honest and serious efforts for good governance, stating that the state’s administrative system is in complete disarray.

He further alleged that the government is ignoring the issues faced by farmers, the poor, and the youth, focusing instead on appeasing minorities. “The government has failed to address the problems of farmers, the impoverished, and unemployed youth. The ongoing battle for the Chief Minister’s position has overshadowed governance. The internal power struggles are affecting administration, and the youth of Karnataka are increasingly frustrated, with the state gradually becoming a drug capital,” he said.

Referring to discussions surrounding Siddaramaiah’s resignation, Vijayendra noted that various factions within the Congress are vying for the Chief Minister’s position. He claimed, “Amid talks of Siddaramaiah’s resignation, infighting over the Chief Minister’s post has intensified within Congress. Some are discussing G. Parameshwara, while others are promoting D.K. Shivakumar and Mallikarjun Kharge. However, regardless of who becomes Chief Minister, it will not benefit the state significantly. Karnataka’s economic situation has deteriorated severely.”

Vijayendra accused the government of increasing disorder and said that people are fed up with corruption. He alleged that an artificial shortage of fertilizers is being created, while ministers and legislators are preoccupied with political maneuvering rather than addressing farmers’ issues.

When asked about the BJP’s role in the political developments, Vijayendra stated that the Congress government holds a majority, and the BJP will not interfere in its internal matters. “We do not wish to politicize this issue. As the opposition party, we have fulfilled our responsibilities effectively. The BJP will neither interfere in the government’s operations nor in Congress’s internal affairs,” he concluded.
