Renowned Pandwani Singer Teejan Bai Hospitalized in Raipur

Raipur, May 28: Dr. Teejan Bai, the celebrated Pandwani folk singer from Chhattisgarh and a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan award, has been hospitalized due to a sudden deterioration in her health. She is currently receiving treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raipur. Reports indicate that her condition is serious, prompting her transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to her daughter-in-law, Venu Deshmukh, Teejan Bai was moved to the MICU late Wednesday night. Her condition was critical upon arrival at the hospital. Comprehensive medical examinations revealed fluid accumulation in her lungs, along with pneumonia and significantly low blood pressure.

Venu Deshmukh stated that after being rushed to AIIMS and receiving prompt medical attention, Teejan Bai’s condition has improved considerably. She mentioned that the singer is now out of danger, providing relief to her family and millions of fans. Family members and countless admirers are praying for her swift recovery and return home. A specialized team of doctors is closely monitoring her condition, taking extra precautions given her age and health status.

Teejan Bai is regarded as a pride of Chhattisgarh. She has brought national and international recognition to the art of Pandwani singing. Her unique style of narrating the tales of the Mahabharata has gained immense popularity among music lovers worldwide.

In 1980, Teejan Bai traveled as a cultural ambassador to countries including England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Turkey, Malta, Cyprus, Romania, and Mauritius. She was honored with the Padma Shri award in 1988 and received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1995. In 2019, she was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, among other accolades.
