
Bengaluru, May 28: A festive atmosphere unfolded at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister and Congress state president D.K. Shivakumar following the news of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation. Supporters and fans gathered outside Shivakumar’s home in Sadashivanagar, celebrating with chants, distributing sweets, and reveling in the moment.
To maintain order amidst the growing crowd, a significant number of police and security personnel were deployed at the residence.
Sources indicate that during a cabinet meeting, Siddaramaiah announced his resignation, discussing the state’s economic situation, challenges in implementing government guarantee schemes, and the need to continue welfare programs in the future.
It is reported that Siddaramaiah informed the ministers that the Congress high command has decided that D.K. Shivakumar will be the next Chief Minister. Following this announcement, cabinet members expressed their agreement and support.
Siddaramaiah also urged his cabinet colleagues to continue delivering good governance and welfare programs to the people of the state.
While Siddaramaiah remained calm and composed during the announcement, he became emotional after concluding his remarks, expressing satisfaction with his work. Several ministers close to him, including Labor Minister Santosh Lad, were also seen emotional during the meeting.
Meanwhile, after the meeting, Shivakumar returned to his residence. Close sources revealed that he plans to visit the Nonavinakere Mutt to seek blessings from Saint Ajjayya Swamiji and discuss auspicious timings for the swearing-in ceremony, accompanied by his daughter.
