Bengaluru, May 28: A significant development unfolded in Karnataka’s political landscape on Thursday, as senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah confirmed his resignation from the Chief Minister position. This announcement marks the end of a prolonged leadership struggle within the party regarding the state’s top post.
It has now been made clear that Shivakumar will succeed Siddaramaiah, paving the way for a leadership transition within Karnataka Congress.
In response to this development, Maharashtra Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar stated that this change is linked to prior discussions within the party ahead of the elections.
Wadettiwar remarked, “There were discussions before the elections, and this is all related to that. Siddaramaiah is a very senior and respected leader in our party. He will be given full respect within the party. He has made significant contributions and has performed well as Chief Minister.”
He further added, “In this situation, bringing forward new and young leadership while respecting senior leaders and providing them with good positions and opportunities is a positive step.”
Supporters of Shivakumar also expressed enthusiasm regarding the leadership change. Tejesh Lokesh Gowda, the district president of Karnataka Sena Pade, mentioned that prayers were held for Shivakumar’s ascension as Chief Minister.
Gowda stated, “We performed rituals and broke coconuts, praying for D.K. Shivakumar to become Chief Minister. Following Siddaramaiah’s resignation, D.K. Shivakumar now has the opportunity to take on this role. We prayed to Lord Ganapati for him to be a good Chief Minister.”
Congress workers appeared excited about this leadership change as well. Party worker Uma Shankar expressed confidence that Shivakumar would soon take the oath of office as Chief Minister.
Earlier, Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar held a breakfast meeting at the Chief Minister’s official residence, ‘Kaveri,’ in Bengaluru.
Shivakumar, considered one of the strongest contenders for the Chief Minister position, arrived at the residence with several cabinet ministers and senior Congress leaders closely associated with Siddaramaiah.
