
Beijing, May 28: A severe road accident occurred in the central province of Henan, China, early Thursday morning. A passenger van collided with a semi-trailer truck on the expressway, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals and injuries to three others.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the incident took place around 2:40 AM on the expressway section near Nanyang city. The nine-seat passenger van was carrying 16 people at the time, indicating it was overloaded.
The Ministry of Public Security has dispatched a team to Nanyang to oversee the investigation and relief efforts. This tragic event follows another major disaster in the region.
The county’s emergency management bureau reported that a coal mine accident in northern China’s Shanxi province has claimed 82 lives, with nine individuals still unaccounted for.
Last week, a gas explosion occurred at the Liushenyu coal mine in Qinyuan County, resulting in the loss of 82 lives. The provincial government has sent 755 personnel to the site for rescue and medical assistance, including rescue workers and medical staff.
A total of 123 individuals were hospitalized, with two in critical condition and two others severely injured, while 33 people were discharged after treatment.
Authorities have detained those responsible for the mining accident under the law.
Earlier this month, a significant explosion at a fireworks factory in Hunan province also resulted in casualties, with around two dozen fatalities and 61 injuries reported. This explosion occurred on May 4 at approximately 4:43 PM at the Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company in the Liuyang area of Changsha city.
More than 480 rescue workers were deployed in five teams to assist in the relief efforts, along with three rescue robots.
