New Delhi, May 28: Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has lauded Rajasthan Royals player and young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his exceptional awareness of the game at just 15 years old. In the IPL 2026 Eliminator match, Vaibhav delivered a stunning performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), scoring 97 runs off just 29 balls.
Thanks to Vaibhav’s remarkable innings, Rajasthan Royals set a formidable target, scoring 243 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. In response, SRH was bowled out for 196 runs. Vaibhav’s innings included 5 fours and 12 sixes, showcasing his explosive batting style.
De Villiers expressed that he was particularly impressed by Vaibhav’s composure and maturity in a high-pressure knockout match. Speaking with ‘GeoStar,’ he stated, “The most remarkable aspect of Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s innings was his calm and clear demeanor under pressure. Pat Cummins and Sunrisers Hyderabad tried various strategies, constantly changing their field placements and lengths to disrupt his rhythm, but he remained completely in control throughout his innings. Such awareness at such a young age in a knockout match is extraordinary for any player.”
He further noted, “Whether they bowled short balls or attempted to surprise him with full-length deliveries, he appeared ready for every plan and maintained control against all of them. Scoring 97 runs in just 29 balls in the Eliminator and dominating every part of the field was a stunning display of fearless batting, which explains why he is being talked about alongside some of the most explosive players in the IPL.”
De Villiers was also impressed by the young player’s preparation and understanding of his mental routine before matches. He remarked that this aspect of Vaibhav’s game demonstrates an unusual level of maturity for someone his age. The RCB Hall of Famer added, “What stands out most about Vaibhav Suryavanshi is his clarity regarding preparation and routine at just 15 years old. Hearing him talk about visualizing match-ups, reading bowlers, and mentally preparing before games reflects a level of maturity rarely seen at that age.”
