New Delhi, May 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a significant change in Punjab by appointing Keval Singh Dhillon as the new state president. This move is seen as a pivotal shift in Punjab’s political landscape, especially with the upcoming assembly elections in 2027. Previously, this position was held by Sunil Jakhar. The announcement was made by party general secretary Arun Singh.
Keval Singh Dhillon has previously served as a two-time MLA from Barnala. He contested a by-election from the same seat in 2024. Known as a development-oriented leader, he is committed to advancing any initiatives related to growth. At present, he was serving as the vice president of Punjab BJP.
Interestingly, Dhillon began his political journey with the Congress party. He won elections from Barnala in 2007 and 2012 before joining the BJP in 2022.
Upon his appointment as the Punjab BJP president, Dhillon expressed confidence that the party would perform exceptionally well in the 2027 elections. He also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stating that the promises made to the people of Punjab remain unfulfilled even after four years. He asserted that the BJP would gain power in Punjab, just as it has in Bengal, and emphasized unity among all communities in the state.
In a related development, the BJP’s top leadership in Haryana has appointed Dr. Archana Gupta as the new state president. She takes over from Mohanlal Badoli and is currently serving as the party’s state general secretary.
Dr. Archana Gupta is a practicing doctor and has been active in the Vishva Hindu Parishad. She has also held the position of women’s wing president from 2016 to 2020 and has served as the district president in Panipat. Her political journey is driven by her commitment to advocating for women’s rights and fighting for the rights of the common people.
