Protests Erupt in Kashmir as Iranian Flag is Hoisted at Lal Chowk

Mumbai, March 8: Filmmaker and social activist Ashok Pandit has expressed deep concern over the ongoing protests in Jammu and Kashmir. He has taken to social media, urging the Indian government to take immediate action.

In a post on Instagram, Pandit remarked that nothing has changed from 1990 to 2026. He compared the current situation to the 1990 Kashmiri Pandit massacre, stating that the threat of Islamic extremism still looms large. He referred to the protesters as “so-called” and warned that they pose a risk to the unity of the nation.

Pandit wrote, “We must unite against these so-called ‘protesters’ and their supporters who wish to undermine India’s freedom. I urge the Indian government to act before it’s too late.”

He referenced slogans from 1990, asking, “What do we want? Freedom! What does freedom mean? La ilaha illallah! What will prevail here? Nizam-e-Mustafa!” He also noted a new slogan from 2026: “Kashmir will become Hezbollah.” He pointed out that a large portion of Kashmir’s population is on the streets, yet no local leaders, including those from the Bharatiya Janata Party, are condemning the violence. Silence has surrounded the large-scale violent protests in the valley and Ladakh.

Pandit described the hoisting of the Iranian flag at Lal Chowk as a bold act, emphasizing that it speaks volumes. He stated, “They were silent then, and they are silent now. We cannot passively watch this violent display of power against our country.”

Sharing his personal experiences, he urged the government to combat this threat not only in Jammu and Kashmir but across the entire nation to ensure internal security.
