New Delhi, June 5: The government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has taken a significant step towards making Delhi greener and pollution-free. On World Environment Day, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh inaugurated a new app-based electric taxi service from the Delhi Secretariat.
According to a statement from the government, the first phase will introduce 1,000 electric taxis in the Delhi-NCR region. A new mobile app has also been launched. The company aims to operate 10,000 electric taxis in the Delhi-NCR area within the next year.
The event was attended by Nguyen Van Thanh, Global CEO of GSM, and Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of Vingroup Asia. The Vietnamese company Green SM has established its manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, making significant foreign direct investment (FDI) under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the Delhi government is consistently promoting green initiatives to reduce pollution and enhance the quality of life for residents. He emphasized that large-scale tree planting, the use of clean technologies, and the adoption of electric mobility are crucial steps towards a healthier Delhi. This new taxi service is a vital part of that effort.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh remarked that the launch of this electric vehicle-based service from the Delhi Secretariat reflects the government’s commitment to making the capital clean, green, and pollution-free. He noted that electric mobility is a key pillar of the Delhi EV policy, aimed at promoting clean transportation, reducing vehicle-related pollution, and improving air quality.
Minister Sirsa highlighted that these electric vehicles are strong examples of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’ Manufactured in India, these vehicles showcase the country’s growing technological capabilities and manufacturing strength.
For safety, these taxis are equipped with advanced features, including AI-based internal and external camera surveillance, a real-time monitoring system, and emergency SOS buttons for both drivers and passengers. Each vehicle is fitted with separate cameras to monitor the road, driver, and passenger areas.
Manjinder Sirsa also mentioned that special attention has been given to women’s safety and empowerment. The company is working on plans to increase the participation of female drivers in its operations in the future.
