New Delhi, May 30: Kunal Ghosh, a leader of the Trinamool Congress, has leveled serious accusations against the BJP regarding the recent attack on MP Abhishek Banerjee in Sonarpur, West Bengal. He claimed that this attack was part of a premeditated conspiracy, raising questions about the role of police and administration in the incident.
Ghosh emphasized that Banerjee is a leader who has recently represented India on an international platform for the nation’s interests. He argued that an attack on such a leader is against democratic values.
He stated that retaliatory politics is being practiced in West Bengal, and the world has witnessed this incident. Citing previous events, Ghosh noted that history shows such attacks do not weaken leaders but rather strengthen them.
Ghosh asserted that the BJP has created an atmosphere against Banerjee, inadvertently solidifying his political identity. He believes that Banerjee will continue his political fight with even greater determination.
Meanwhile, the All India Trinamool Congress condemned the incident, stating that violence and provocative politics have no place in a democratic system. The party indicated that necessary actions would be taken at the organizational level regarding the matter.
Ghosh remarked that Banerjee’s second term begins today, and such attacks occur strategically when TMC leaders are on tours. He stressed that this is unacceptable in a democracy and that the TMC strongly condemns the incident.
On the other hand, following the attack, Banerjee alleged that it was orchestrated by BJP-backed goons. He mentioned that he was visiting party worker Sanju Karmakar, who had been a victim of post-election violence.
He also claimed that there was no police presence at the scene during the attack. The TMC MP stated that he would approach the Calcutta High Court regarding this matter and inform West Bengal Governor R.N. Ravi about the entire incident.
