
Daejeon, June 1: A tragic explosion occurred at the Hanwha Aerospace factory in Daejeon, South Korea, on Monday, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuring two others.
Authorities received reports of the explosion at 10:59 AM. They are currently working to confirm the exact number of casualties.
According to Yonhap News Agency, firefighting teams have arrived on the scene to combat the blaze.
Police and fire officials believe the explosion originated on the factory’s first floor. Investigations into the cause of the incident will commence once the fire is fully extinguished.
Sina News Agency confirmed that four people died and two were injured in the incident at the Hanwha Aerospace plant, a major player in South Korea’s aerospace and defense sector.
The fire department issued a Level-1 emergency response around 11:17 AM and began firefighting efforts.
In response to the explosion, South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok ordered the deployment of all necessary equipment and personnel for rescue operations.
As concerns grew that more individuals might be affected, he directed the Ministry of Interior, fire agencies, police, and the Daejeon city government to mobilize all available resources to extinguish the fire and rescue people, preventing further loss of life and property.
Additionally, the Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Science, Aerospace Agency, and other relevant departments have been asked to provide full support for the rescue efforts. Currently, rescue and relief operations are ongoing.
