Paris, June 1: French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a swift agreement between the United States and Iran. He urged the unconditional reopening of the Hormuz Strait in accordance with international law.
Macron shared on social media that he has engaged in discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
He emphasized to all these leaders the critical need for the US and Iran to reach an agreement as soon as possible. According to Macron, the immediate priority is to ensure a ceasefire and reopen the Hormuz Strait unconditionally, all in line with international law. Following this, discussions should continue on other issues, aiming for a robust and comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles, and regional stability.
As reported by Xinhua News Agency, Macron stated that France is ready to play its role in this process, which includes working with the UK to ensure maritime traffic security in the Hormuz Strait through a multinational initiative.
The French President also noted that regional stability should begin with Lebanon and called on all parties to cease violence. He reaffirmed France’s commitment to supporting the Lebanese government in restoring state sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center, an Israeli airstrike targeted an area near the Hiram Hospital in the southern city of Tyre on Sunday, injuring 13 hospital staff and causing significant damage.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to change the terms of the agreement with Iran to end the conflict. Iran is also preparing to present new proposals, as stated in a US media report.
The New York Times noted that these negotiations have been marked by back-and-forth exchanges, facing numerous obstacles that could revert the process to its initial state.
