Washington, June 1: U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated on Monday that Iran is eager to reach an agreement. He shared this statement on a social media platform, asserting, “Iran wants to make a deal,” which he believes would be beneficial for the United States and its allies.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump also targeted opposition Democrats and some Republican leaders, accusing them of obstructing negotiations with their rhetoric. He stated, “Democrats and certain Republicans (who seem to lack patriotism) do not understand that when political figures continuously make negative comments, it becomes much harder for me to do my job and negotiate effectively.”
Trump urged the public to exercise patience, expressing hope that everything would turn out positively. He said, “Just sit back; in the end, everything will be fine. It always is.”
However, Trump’s post did not mention the recent self-defense strikes by U.S. Central Command or the retaliatory actions by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
On the same day, U.S. Central Command, known as CENTCOM, reported that it had conducted self-defense strikes in Iran’s Goruk city and on Qeshm Island. The statement released on X indicated that these actions were in response to Iran’s aggressive activities. The U.S. accused Iran of previously downing an MQ-1 drone in international waters.
According to CENTCOM, the U.S. military destroyed Iran’s air defense systems, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones, which were allegedly posing a threat to vessels traversing regional maritime routes.
Following this, the IRGC claimed to have targeted the airbase used by the U.S. for the strikes. This airbase was reportedly the same location from which the U.S. military had attacked a telecom tower on Sirik Island in southern Iran. However, the IRGC did not disclose the exact location of this airbase.
