Bhubaneswar, June 1: A shocking incident has emerged from the Cuttack district of Odisha. Police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his 28-year-old wife. The murder reportedly stemmed from a dispute between the couple over suspicions of infidelity.
The accused has been identified as Malay Kumar Samal, a resident of Bhatimunda village in the Tangi police station area.
According to police, Malay worked as a mason in the Balikuda area of Jagatsinghpur district. He met Banita Sethi a few years ago, and their friendship eventually blossomed into a romantic relationship. The couple later married at a temple in Balikuda.
After their marriage, they lived together in Jagatsinghpur for about two years. Approximately a year and a half ago, Malay brought Banita to his ancestral home in Cuttack under the pretense of visiting, but he did not introduce her to his family. Instead, they lived in a rented house in the Tangi police station area.
During this time, Banita worked at a private organization in the area, contributing financially to their household.
Police stated that a few months ago, a distant female friend of Banita came to stay with them. During this period, Malay allegedly developed an extramarital relationship with this woman.
Frequent arguments between the husband and wife ensued, creating a tense atmosphere at home. Investigators believe that the ongoing disputes and growing rift in their relationship led to the murder.
On Wednesday, Malay allegedly strangled Banita to death. He then concealed her body in a sack and buried it by the Mendakhai River in an attempt to hide the evidence.
Following a complaint from Banita’s family on Saturday, police took Malay into custody for questioning. During the interrogation, he reportedly confessed to the crime.
Based on his directions, police recovered Banita’s body from the riverbank on Sunday. Authorities suspect that Banita’s female friend may also be involved in the murder, and they are conducting raids to locate her.
