Fake Video Targeting Indian Army Chief Exposed as Pakistani Propaganda

New Delhi, June 1: A fake video targeting General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Indian Army, has gone viral on social media, allegedly claiming he made statements regarding relations between India and the Taliban. However, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-check team has labeled this claim as completely false and misleading.

The PIB fact-check clarified that General Dwivedi has not made any such statements. Investigations revealed that the viral video was digitally manipulated to mislead viewers. The supposed statements attributed to the Army Chief were fabricated and inserted into the video using technical means.

According to the fact-check unit, this video is part of an anti-India propaganda campaign aimed at creating confusion and distrust towards the Indian Army and government institutions. In recent years, the use of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology has made it easier to create such deceptive videos, leading to the rapid spread of misinformation.

The PIB has urged the public to refrain from sharing any videos, photos, or claims circulating on social media without verification. Especially concerning national security, military, and government matters, reliance should only be placed on official sources.

Notably, a recent propaganda account linked to Pakistan also spread false information regarding Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, claiming he made a statement supporting the Balochistan Liberation Army. However, investigations confirmed that this claim was entirely baseless and fabricated.

The government’s fact-check agency has declared this assertion as completely false and concocted. They clarified that the Defense Minister has not made any such statement, and the claims circulating on social media are entirely misleading. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious or misleading content related to the Indian government to the PIB fact-check team via WhatsApp at +91 8799711259 or through email.
