RCB Poised to be Strong Title Contender in Coming Years, Says Coach Rajkumar Sharma

New Delhi, June 1: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clinched the IPL 2026 title, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar. Rajkumar Sharma, childhood coach of star player Virat Kohli, praised RCB’s performance and strategy following their victory.

With this win at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, RCB became only the third team in IPL history to defend their title. They successfully chased down GT’s target of 156 runs in just 18 overs, losing only five wickets.

In an interview, Sharma remarked, “Yes, this was a significant achievement. From the start, RCB played like champions, demonstrating their status as defending champions. They approached this year with a professional mindset, which is why they won the match and the trophy so easily.”

Following RCB’s championship win, star batsman Virat Kohli expressed that he did not feel the same pressure as last year. Sharma found this reaction completely natural, considering the historic context of Kohli’s first title win after a 17-year wait. He stated, “It’s understandable. Last season, they celebrated after a long wait for the trophy. Winning after such a long time naturally brings excitement and pressure.”

Now, with two IPL trophies under their belt, RCB’s confidence has soared. Sharma believes that if the team continues to play cohesively and adheres to their strategy, they will remain strong contenders for the title in the years to come.

He emphasized that every player understands their role well, leading to consistent improvement in performance. According to the coach, if this momentum continues, RCB will be among the strongest teams in the upcoming seasons and will be considered a serious title contender.
