Puri, 1 January: On the very first day of the year, a large number of devotees arrived in Puri from various parts of the country to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath. Despite the dense fog enveloping the city on this New Year morning, the enthusiasm of the pilgrims remained undeterred.

Devotees from all corners of India gathered at the Jagannath Temple, filling the temple premises with chants of “Jai Jagannath.” From the early hours of Brahma Muhurta, long queues of devotees were seen waiting patiently for their turn to witness the divine darshan.

While the temple buzzed with the presence of worshippers, the thick fog made visibility quite low in and around the temple area. Considering the cold and foggy weather conditions, the temple administration has made special arrangements to ensure the safety of the pilgrims. In a conversation with Daily Kiran, Shri Arvind Padhi, the chief administrator of the Jagannath Temple, stated that all rituals and programs scheduled for 1 January 2026 are proceeding smoothly with the cooperation of the temple’s priests, stakeholders, and officials.

He further added that due to the expected large turnout of devotees, comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to facilitate hassle-free darshan. The temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and colorful lights to mark the New Year celebrations. Special rituals are being performed throughout the day, with many devotees having pre-booked their participation in these ceremonies. Alongside the darshan and pooja, preparations for the Mahabhog feast are also in the final stages.

Meanwhile, in Amritsar, despite the thick fog, a large number of devotees gathered at the Shri Harmandir Sahib to offer prayers and ardas on the occasion of the New Year. Devotees from India and abroad visited the shrine, which was adorned with yellow and white sparkling lights. The sangat bowed in reverence, praying for a prosperous beginning to the year ahead.
