BJP Supporters Chant Jai Shri Ram Outside Mamata Banerjees Residence in Kolkata

Kolkata, May 9: Following a political shift in West Bengal, BJP supporters gathered outside former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence in the Kalighat area of Kolkata on Saturday. They chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as they made their way to the oath-taking ceremony of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.

The incident occurred on Harish Chatterjee Street, where security around Banerjee’s home has been notably reduced after the Trinamool Congress’s electoral defeat. Only a few police officers and CRPF personnel were present, and the street appeared quieter than usual.

A small procession of BJP workers passed by Banerjee’s residence en route to the Brigade Parade Ground for the ceremony. Upon reaching her home, they raised their voices in support of their party. After chanting, the BJP supporters continued on their way.

Meanwhile, some Trinamool Congress workers also arrived at Banerjee’s residence, chanting ‘Jai Bangla’ in support of their leader. The atmosphere remained peaceful throughout the event, with no reports of any disturbances.

At the Brigade Parade Ground, Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as West Bengal’s ninth Chief Minister. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President Nitin Gadkari, several central ministers, chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, newly elected legislators, and thousands of BJP supporters.

This marks a significant political change in West Bengal after nearly 15 years. The BJP won 207 seats in the 294-member assembly, ousting the Trinamool Congress government, which saw its representation drop from 215 seats in 2021 to just 80 this time.
